Grapes on a 17th-century pewter plate

This still life features a bowl of grapes on a 17th-century pewter plate. The choice to present it in a square format is unconventional, as most still lifes from that time are rectangular, which is thought to be more pleasing to the eye.

It’s also bold to show the bowl from above, with the grapes centered in the middle. This approach is far from typical for the 17th century, but I enjoy working with such a simple scene, and from this unexpected angle.

The grapes and plate represent the beauty of everyday objects, and the way a fresh perspective can bring them back to life.
