Narcissus

I had long wanted to depict the classical theme of Narcissus, but the well-known image of the young man gazing into water — as painted by Caravaggio or Waterhouse — felt too literal. I made several sketches, yet none quite captured what I was after. Eventually, I took a different path: not Narcissus by the water, but before a mirror. Not simply admiring his reflection, but performing — the mirror as stage, the mask as a symbol of how we present ourselves.
