Schelpjes

Shells

During a visit to an antique shop, I came across a bag of shells that had been left neglected in a corner behind an old piece of furniture. I bought the bag for a small price and decided to arrange some of the shells on my table. The way they related to one another reminded me somewhat of the compositions by Adriaen Coorte, but I created the arrangement in my own way. The result is a refined painting on panel, where the calmness and simplicity of the shells take center stage. The piece is framed in a handmade frame with white-gold details, crafted by a renowned framer who also works for museums worldwide.

Oil on panel – 28 x 13 cm
