The Woodcock

I found a dead woodcock, a bird I rarely see, but one that caught my attention. Although I don’t like seeing dead animals, her beauty moved me. She was fragile, with small, delicate feathers, and I wanted to show her my last respect.

In the 17th century, a specific small feather from her wing was used to paint the finest details in artwork. This feather was used to capture precise lines and subtle textures. Her beauty lives on in my painting.
