Portrait Jippe

2016 – Oil paint on panel – 120 x 50 cm

I have composed this portrait of Jippe differently from my usual method: as opposed to the method used with classical portraits, I have applied the background with a knife very thickly, and polished it in by hand with glaze. Only Jippe’s face is somewhat detailed. In this portrait, I attempted to work with other colours, which are also complementary with the background. However, I have tried to give the face a classical appearance by using glaze.

Jippe did not pose for this portrait, he just stood like that in our kitchen one day.
