Still life violin

2009 – Oil paint on canvas – 80 x 30 cm

I once bought this old violin at a jumble sale. Not that I can play the violin, but because the shape appealed to me and violins are so often depicted in old still life compositions. It is known to be tricky to paint properly. The gloss on the sound box is particularly difficult to depict faithfully.
The card shows a 19th century painting I love. It introduces a little more excitement into the still life.
