Tempera on linnen – 278 x 172 cm

Last year I was asked to make a lifelike reproduction of the large painting by Botticelli from the Uffizi in Florence, the birth of Venus. I flew to Florence in May to make a study of the original. The original is tempera on a linen background and I can tell you, tempera paint is not just buying tempera in a tube. I have made countless tests with egg yolks, water and oils. I also tried to use as many pigments as possible that were also used in the original.
