Kohlrabi
This still life features a kohlrabi on a plate, viewed from above. The choice of a square format is unconventional, as most classical still lifes are rectangular, which is considered more visually pleasing.
The kohlrabi is positioned at the center, making the composition bold, with a simple yet detailed depiction of the subject. Although this approach is not typical of the 17th century, I find it intriguing to work with everyday objects from an unexpected angle, giving them a new meaning.
The frame is handcrafted and adorned with gold leaf, adding an extra layer of refinement to the work, complementing the simplicity of the still life.
