La Lienne

This painting depicts a river in the Belgian Ardennes—a landscape that continues to inspire me with its quiet strength and timeless presence. Unlike La Première Neige, where the first snowfall stills the scene, this work shows the river in a gentler, milder state. No snow, but the same sense of calm.

I consciously choose not to paint in bright, sunlit scenes. It’s in the more subdued, darker times of day or year—when colors are softened and light is diffused—that I feel the mystical quality of the landscape most strongly. In that quiet, something deeper can be felt beyond what is seen.
